²³“The command to leave the stump of the tree with its roots means that your kingdom will be restored to you^[a] as soon as you understand that Heaven is sovereign. ²⁴Therefore, O king, may my counsel be acceptable to you: Renounce your sins through righteousness and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor. Perhaps your prosperity will be prolonged.”
